I jumped into college with basically nothing—broke, hungry, and fueled by
peanut butter sandwiches and instant noodles. After graduation, as my paychecks increased, it never felt like I was getting ahead. Between high-interest car loans (thanks, terrible credit), student loans, rent, and just the cost of living, I was constantly treading water.
The struggle pushed me to start digging—first at the local library, then down internet rabbit holes on everything money-related: investing, taxes, retirement, insurance, budgeting. The more I learned, the more I kept thinking, “Why didn’t we learn this in school?” I became obsessed with understanding the financial systems so many of us are thrown into without a map.
I wanted to give back and help others avoid the financial confusion I went through. That led me to dive into a financial planning program and earn my Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) certification—one of the most trusted credentials in the industry. For me, it wasn’t just about the title; it was about making sure I had the tools to help people make real, informed decisions
about their money.
In my role with the federal government, I saw firsthand how everyday people and businesses were taken advantage of—whether it was shady accountants, manipulative lenders, or scammy financial planners. Most of the time, people were trying to catch up and got burned by promises that sounded too good to be true.
All of these accumulated experiences led me to start Black Oak Financial. I wanted to be a proactive force—helping people take control of their financial futures before they hit crisis mode, rather than showing up after the damage was done.
Expericence
Black Oak offers a unique understanding of business through the combination of financial education, experience in local law enforcement, investigations of complex financial crimes in the Federal government, and the discipline and leadership obtained through military experience.
